Qatar Airways to launch Doha services at Western Sydney International
Qatar Airways has announced it will begin flight operations at the new Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) on 15 December 2027. The airline will initially operate three weekly return services between WSI and Doha, utilizing Boeing 777-300ER aircraft equipped with Qsuite business class cabins and free Starlink Wi-Fi. The airline plans to increase this frequency to daily services by the end of 2028.
The new route aims to leverage WSI’s 24-hour operating capacity, providing travelers from Sydney’s outer west and southwest with connections to more than 170 destinations via the Doha hub. The service launch was supported by the $16 million Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, a joint initiative between the airport and the NSW Government.
As WSI prepares for its first passenger flights on 25 October, Qatar Airways joins other international carriers such as Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, Vietjet, and Fiji Airways in committing to the new gateway. Aviation experts note that while the airport marks a significant shift in the regional aviation landscape, success will depend on the development of passenger demand and surrounding transport infrastructure.
