Qatar and Egypt co‑host second International Conference on Discrimination against Muslims

The second International Conference on Combating Discrimination against Islam and Muslims was held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo on 3‑4 August 2026. The two‑day event, themed “Islamophobia: Concept and Practice in the Current Global Context,” brought together delegations from Qatar, Egypt and other nations. Qatar’s delegation included Dr. Yusuf Al‑Siddiqi of the Doha International Center for Inter‑faith Dialogue and Amina Abdulrahman Al‑Sultati, while Egypt was represented by Dr. Mohamed Al‑Jundi, Secretary‑General of the Islamic Research Center, alongside officials from Al‑Azhar University and ambassadors from several countries.

Speakers emphasized the need for moderate religious discourse and practical measures to counter hate speech. Dr. Al‑Siddiqi said the conference “offers a vital opportunity to listen directly and convey a correct image of Islam,” while Dr. Al‑Jundi warned that extremism and hateful rhetoric are “diseases spread by enemies of humanity, not by religion.” The agenda included the launch of a permanent multi‑party platform to coordinate regional and international efforts against Islamophobia, and discussions on the role of religious institutions, educational bodies and civil society in promoting tolerance and youth engagement.
