Qatar and Pakistan pledge to expand trade and investment ties

During the second meeting of the Pakistan-Qatar Joint Task Force in Doha, officials from both nations pledged to strengthen economic cooperation and expand investment across several strategic sectors.

Co-chaired by Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs Ahmad bin Mohammed al-Sayed, the meeting focused on reviewing progress since the task force's inception in April 2026. Key areas of discussion included modern agriculture, grain storage, cold-chain infrastructure, and food security through sustainable supply arrangements.

Pakistan invited Qatari investment into its information technology sector, digital infrastructure, and the electric vehicle industry, specifically highlighting opportunities for joint manufacturing and technology transfer. Maritime cooperation was also a priority, with talks covering the security and transport of oil tankers, liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, and container vessels.

Additionally, Pakistan urged Qatar to support the Pakistan-GCC Free Trade Agreement and requested the lifting of a ban on bone-in meat imports. The two sides also reviewed a proposed government-to-government rice supply agreement involving the Trading Corporation of Pakistan and Qatar’s Hassad Food.
