Qatar and Saudi Arabia strengthen security and military ties

Qatar and Saudi Arabia are strengthening their security and military alliance to enhance regional stability in the Gulf. During a high-level meeting in Riyadh, Qatar’s Minister of Interior, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and Saudi Arabia’s Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud met to discuss expanding collaborative measures and joint initiatives through the Security and Military Committee.

This strategic partnership comes amid broader regional tensions regarding digital infrastructure. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries—including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait—are heavily investing in artificial intelligence to diversify their economies. However, analysts note that subsea internet data cables in the Gulf are strategic pressure points. Damage to these networks could disrupt global connectivity, as the systems support approximately $10 trillion in daily financial transactions and connect critical cloud computing and data center hubs between Europe, Asia, and Africa.
