Qatar captain Boualem Khoukhi awarded $3 million and Rolls‑Royce after historic World Cup draw with Switzerland

Qatar earned its first ever point at a FIFA World Cup when it drew 1‑1 with Switzerland in a stoppage‑time match at the 2026 tournament. The decisive goal was scored by Qatar captain Boualem Khoukhi, though the official record later listed it as an own goal by Swiss defender Mira Muheim.

Following the goal, Qatar's public investment fund announced a reward package for Khoukhi comprising a US$3 million bonus and a Rolls‑Royce Phantom valued at more than US$550,000. The incentive was presented as recognition for the historic contribution to Qatar’s World Cup campaign, which hopes to progress further after securing the opening point.

The match took place in Santa Clara, California, as part of the World Cup hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico, which runs from 11 June to 19 July 2026.
