Qatar Condemns Iran, Reaffirms India Ties, Pursues Hormuz Negotiations

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Iran’s attack on Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, calling it a "blatant violation of the sovereignty of the sisterly Republic of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq" and urging dialogue and de‑escalation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani spoke by telephone to reaffirm the India‑Qatar Strategic Partnership and to offer condolences on the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, whose legacy was credited with modernising Qatar and strengthening bilateral ties.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al‑Thani visited Muscat, Oman, to initiate talks with Iraq, Iran and other Gulf states on navigation, security and fees for the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint through which about 20% of global oil and gas supplies transit.
