Qatar Emir condemns Iranian sovereignty violations and Gaza genocide

During the opening of the 55th session of the Qatar Shura Council, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani addressed critical regional security and economic issues. He characterized recent Iranian attacks on Qatari territory as a clear violation of national sovereignty, international law, and the principles of good neighborliness. He noted that Qatari armed forces and security units successfully fulfilled their duty to defend the nation.

The Emir also addressed the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, describing the situation as ‘undoubtedly a genocide’ and calling for those responsible to be held accountable. He emphasized that the Palestinian cause remains a top priority for Qatar and expressed concern over settler attacks in the West Bank and raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque.

On the economic front, Al Thani discussed the impact of regional instability on energy markets. He noted that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and damage to certain energy facilities at Ras Laffan have negatively affected exports. Despite these challenges, he reported that non-hydrocarbon sectors now contribute approximately 80 percent to Qatar's GDP, with the economy growing by 2.9 percent in 2025.
