Qatar Emir warns Gulf security and sovereignty are non-negotiable

Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani addressed the Shura Council regarding the regional instability caused by the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The Emir emphasized that the security and sovereignty of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states are non-negotiable.

The conflict has triggered a global energy crisis and significantly impacted Qatar’s economy. The Emir noted that government revenue fell by 42% in the first half of the year, citing disruptions to exports and damage to critical infrastructure, including the Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility.

With Qatar accounting for approximately one-fifth of global LNG trade, the Emir called for increased efforts to secure maritime navigation in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, which has faced effective blockades. Despite economic pressures and spending cuts, he maintained that essential services and development priorities remain protected.
