Qatar expands volleyball presence with new training centre and international competition

Qatar is expanding its role in international volleyball through both infrastructure development and competitive participation. The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) and the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a new FIVB International Centre of Excellence (ICoE) for Beach Volleyball in Doha. Located at the Al Gharafa Beach Volleyball Training Centre, the facility will serve as a regional hub for high-performance training, athlete development, and coach education for the Middle East and Asia.

Simultaneously, the Qatar men’s volleyball team has traveled to Japan to prepare for upcoming major competitions. The squad is set to compete in the Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship in Fukuoka, followed by the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. The team, which recently underwent a rebuilding phase including the introduction of nine new players, will face opponents including Thailand, Chinese Taipei, and South Korea in the championship group stages.
