Qatar Post launches UPI-based remittance service for transfers to India

A new UPI-powered remittance service has been launched to facilitate direct money transfers from Qatar to India. Developed through a collaboration between Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP), and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the service allows customers to send funds from Qatar Post outlets directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India.

The service became operational on August 15, 2026, coinciding with India’s Independence Day. To use the service, customers must provide the recipient’s UPI ID and necessary identification at a Qatar Post outlet. Recipients must also activate the facility for receiving foreign inward remittances via their UPI application to ensure instant credit to their accounts.

Transaction limits range from QAR 10 to QAR 4,000 per transfer, with a maximum cap equivalent to ₹1,00,000. A flat service fee of QAR 15 applies to each transaction. The initiative aims to strengthen digital financial connectivity and bilateral cooperation between India and Qatar, specifically benefiting the large Indian community residing in Qatar.
