Qatar PM calls regional tensions an 'earthquake' at UNGA forum

Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum during the UN General Assembly, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani described recent regional tensions as an “earthquake” that has tested security and supply chains. He emphasized that lasting security cannot be achieved through cycles of escalation and retaliation, but requires building trust and respecting national sovereignty.

Al Thani noted that regional conflicts, specifically involving the US, Israel, and Iran, have impacted energy flows and maritime shipping. He reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to acting as a diplomatic mediator, a reliable energy supplier, and an investment partner despite current regional uncertainties.

On the economic front, Al Thani announced the launch of the “Doha Investment Platform” to manage the local investment portfolio and drive growth through the private sector. He also projected that approximately $38.5 billion in new infrastructure projects, including public-private partnerships, will be tendered over the next five years.
