Qatar selects KNDS France and John Cockerill for military modernization

France and Qatar have signed a letter of intent selecting KNDS France and John Cockerill Defense to participate in the modernization of Qatar’s land forces. The agreement, announced following a state visit by Emmanuel Macron, marks a significant step in military cooperation between the two nations.

While the selection of these defense companies represents political and commercial progress, no definitive contracts, final amounts, or delivery schedules have been confirmed. Negotiations are ongoing to transform this selection into binding orders. Reports indicate the negotiations may involve several hundred VBCI infantry fighting vehicles.

Beyond land forces, the two countries aim to deepen cooperation in training, operational integration, and security guarantees to promote stability in the Middle East. Existing collaborations in radar, telecommunications satellites, and the use of Rafale fighter jets were also noted.
