QatarEnergy’s Al Areesh completes LNG transit through Strait of Hormuz to Pakistan

The strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key oil‑shipping lane, has seen a sharp drop in traffic amid regional tensions, prompting emergency measures that kept global oil supplies stable. A coordinated release of 400 million barrels from strategic reserves and alternative routing via the Red Sea and Suez Canal helped limit price spikes, especially in Europe.

After three weeks without a successful passage, the QatarEnergy‑owned LNG carrier Al Areesh transited the strait on a live‑transponder route toward Pakistan, marking the first LNG ship to leave the area since recent attacks on similar vessels. Pakistan’s role as a mediator in US‑Iran talks may have facilitated the safe passage. An empty LNG carrier owned by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company also completed a reverse transit with its systems off, while a dozen other tankers await loading at Qatar’s Ras Laffan terminal.
