Qatari Committee urges Arab lists to sign electoral agreement
The Qatari Committee of Arab Local Authorities Heads has called upon the two competing Arab political lists for the upcoming Knesset elections—the Joint List and the United Arab List—to sign a surplus vote agreement and an electoral code of conduct.
The committee stated that this initiative aims to prevent the loss of votes and maximize Arab political representation within the Knesset, especially following failed attempts to form a single unified Arab list. The proposed surplus vote agreement is intended to preserve voter influence and increase the community's political impact.
Additionally, the committee urged both parties to adopt a code of conduct to ensure responsible and ethical campaigning. This code would emphasize respect for political pluralism and discourage incitement, defamation, or accusations of treason. The committee stressed that the interests of the Arab community should take precedence over partisan competition, particularly regarding critical issues such as combating crime, housing, planning, and addressing systemic discrimination.
