Qatari Diar begins Alam Al-Rum project in Egypt

Qatari Diar has commenced the first phase of the ‘Alam Al-Rum’ project on Egypt’s North Coast in Matrouh Governorate. The massive integrated urban and tourism development spans 20.58 million square meters, with total project investments estimated at $29.7 billion, including $3.5 billion in direct cash investments.

The first phase covers approximately 4 million square meters and involves investments of roughly 220 billion Egyptian pounds. This phase includes a 2-kilometer promenade, natural and artificial swimmable lakes, a marina for 50 yachts, and four hotels providing over 1,000 rooms. It is expected to create approximately 30,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Upon full completion, the project aims to provide over 250,000 jobs and will feature an international marina with a capacity for 370 yachts, an 18-hole international golf course, and more than 3,500 hotel rooms across various resorts. The development is designed as a year-round coastal city rather than a seasonal resort, focusing on sustainability, smart mobility, and pedestrian-friendly urban planning. Deliveries for the project components are expected to begin starting in 2030.
