QBE appoints Jamie Thompson as Global Data Center Director

QBE has appointed Jamie Thompson to the newly created role of Global Data Center Director. Thompson, who previously led the Financial Lines team for QBE International Markets, will integrate expertise from underwriting, risk engineering, claims, and distribution to create a global insurance proposition for data center infrastructure.

The move comes as the data center sector undergoes rapid evolution driven by cloud migration and artificial intelligence. QBE anticipates that global data center capacity will double between 2026 and 2030, adding nearly 100 gigawatts of power. This growth is expected to drive infrastructure investment reaching up to $3 trillion by 2030.

Cécile Fresneau, Managing Director of the QBE Insurance Division, noted that the scale, energy requirements, and global locations of the sector necessitate specialized, expert-backed solutions. Thompson emphasized that the increasing complexity and interconnectedness of risks will require sophisticated, integrated products that analyze the full data lifecycle.
