qdc and Ayuto announce BASALT flagship IEM
qdc and Ayuto have announced the release of the BASALT, a flagship universal In-Ear Monitor (IEM) inspired by the mythical Black Tortoise (Genbu). Scheduled for release on October 24, the device is priced at 253,000 yen.
The BASALT features a single full-range dynamic driver equipped with a custom 13mm ultra-thin pure diamond diaphragm. Unlike standard diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings, this diaphragm utilizes high-purity polycrystalline diamond formed via Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). This material provides extreme hardness, high sound velocity, and high-frequency extension exceeding 40kHz, aiming to eliminate the harsh metallic resonance typical of metal diaphragms.
The housing is constructed from black titanium to reflect the ruggedness of basalt rock while providing resonance control. The ergonomic design is intended to offer a fit comparable to custom-made IEMs. The package includes a premium cable with a 2-in-1 multi-plug capable of switching between 3.5mm unbalanced and 4.4mm balanced connections, along with various silicone ear tips and a wooden carrying case.
