Qiantang River reveals rare tidal tree patterns after Typhoon Dolphin

Following the circulation of Typhoon Dolphin, a rare natural phenomenon known as a ‘tidal tree’ has appeared along the Qiantang River in Zhejiang Province, China. As the tide receded, large riverbanks were revealed with intricate, swirling sand patterns in shades of brown, dark brown, gray, and black.

Viewed from above, these patterns resemble a giant feather or a massive sand painting. Geographically, this phenomenon occurs on muddy tidal flats when rising and falling tides carve main tidal channels that branch into numerous smaller grooves, creating a structure that looks like a tree or a feather from an aerial perspective. The visual spectacle, captured in Hai Ninh, Jiaxing, has drawn significant attention from social media users.
