Qishan Hospital launches southern Taiwan's first NHI rehabilitation ward
Qishan Hospital has launched a pilot program for the first National Health Insurance (NHI) rehabilitation ward in southern Taiwan. The initiative, a collaboration between the Kaohsiung City Government and the National Health Insurance Administration, aims to bridge the urban-rural medical gap and promote medical equity.
The program integrates specialized wards, rehabilitation spaces, and simulated home environments. This design is intended to help patients transition from acute treatment to functional recovery and prepare for a safe return home. By aligning with the national ‘Long-Term Care 3.0’ policy, the hospital seeks to create a continuous recovery model encompassing acute medical care, functional restoration, home preparation, and community care.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai attended the launch ceremony, emphasizing that providing high-quality care in rural areas is a vital service that reduces the burden on families and addresses the challenges of an aging society. The hospital intends to use this pilot to establish a model that can eventually be expanded to other regions.
