QMM mining operations drive economic growth in Madagascar

The QMM mine in Fort-Dauphin has become a central driver for the economic development of the Anôsy region and the broader Malagasy economy. By establishing a global value chain, the industrial activity has fostered a professionalized entrepreneurial landscape.

Currently, 88 local partner companies collaborate with the mine in sectors such as transport, logistics, industrial maintenance, security, hospitality, and catering. These regional providers account for approximately 1,300 stable jobs. The resulting economic cascade supports local businesses and thousands of families throughout the southern part of the island.

Infrastructure developed for mining operations also serves as a public good for the community. Most notably, the Port of Ehoala, originally designed for mineral exports, has evolved into a major regional maritime hub. Currently, 70 percent of the port's traffic is public, facilitating increased international trade for the region.
