Qobuz implements AI-generated music labels in streaming app

Qobuz, the France-based music streaming service, has introduced an in-app label to identify releases containing AI-generated music. The feature aims to provide transparency, allowing listeners to make informed choices about the origin of the audio they consume.

The company developed its identification system in-house and updated its AI Charter to support this initiative. While the label identifies AI-generated content, Qobuz distinguishes between legitimate AI use and fraudulent activity. The company reported that 60% of streams on tracks identified as AI-generated are currently deemed fraudulent by its anti-fraud systems, and such streams are excluded from royalty payouts.

To maintain a human-led discovery experience, Qobuz is excluding AI-identified content from its algorithmic recommendations and human-curated editorial selections, such as featured playlists and ‘Albums of the Week’. Additionally, the service has de-indexed over four million tracks identified as AI-generated that showed no listening activity, though they remain searchable by direct title.
