QR Code technology expands global digital and financial integration

QR Code technology, originally invented in 1994 by engineer Masahiro Hara at Denso Corporation, has evolved from a niche tool into a fundamental component of the global digital routine. While the technology has existed for decades, its adoption accelerated significantly around 2020 due to the increased demand for contactless solutions.

Today, QR Codes serve as a bridge between physical and digital experiences, utilized in restaurant menus, Wi-Fi connectivity, contact information sharing, and advertising. A major driver of this growth is the financial sector; Juniper Research predicts that the number of people using QR Code payments and related financial services will grow from 1.5 billion to over 2.2 billion by 2025, representing approximately 29% of global mobile users.

Technically, a QR Code is a two-dimensional matrix of modules, typically in black and white to ensure high contrast for scanners. The design includes three squares in the corners to assist readers in positioning. While high contrast is essential for functionality, the technology allows for customization through colors, gradients, and integrated images.
