QS Asia University Rankings 2027 show shifts for Malaysian and Singaporean institutions
The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings: Asia 2027 has released updated standings for regional institutions, showing significant movement for universities in Malaysia and Singapore.
In Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) entered the top 20 for the first time, climbing from 24th to joint 20th. This progress comes as Universiti Malaya (UM), the nation's highest-ranked institution, fell from 15th to joint 17th. While 17 Malaysian institutions achieved record high rankings, 25 universities saw their positions drop compared to the previous year.
In Singapore, no university placed in the top five. The National University of Singapore (NUS) fell to joint sixth, while Nanyang Technological University (NTU) moved to eighth place. Both institutions were previously ranked joint third. However, other Singaporean universities saw improvements, notably the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), which rose 81 places to enter the top 100 for the first time.
