QSUT implements new management model for Polyvalent Emergency

The Polyvalent Emergency department at the Mother Teresa University Hospital Center (QSUT) is implementing a new management and operational model. The initiative aims to increase efficiency, improve team coordination, and ensure faster response times for patients.

Minister of Health and Social Welfare Klodiana Spahiu noted that the department served approximately 91,000 patients between January and September 2026. The new structure utilizes a mandatory triage system where patients are categorized by color codes—white, yellow, and red—based on the severity of their condition to streamline the flow toward observation areas.

To prevent overcrowding, Spahiu emphasized the importance of educating citizens to visit family doctors for non-emergency cases. Additionally, improved coordination with regional hospitals is being prioritized to better manage patient transfers to the tertiary center.
