Qt Group releases Qt 6.12 LTS with HarmonyOS support
Qt Group has released Qt 6.12, its latest Long-Term Support (LTS) version of its multi-platform application development framework. This release provides five years of maintenance, aimed at ensuring stability and reliability for proprietary software projects.
A major feature of this update is the inclusion of support for Huawei’s HarmonyOS. This allows developers to port C++ and QML programs to HarmonyOS NEXT—which lacks an Android foundation—without requiring a complete architectural redesign. The new 'harmonydeployqt' tool facilitates this by packaging applications and Qt libraries into the HAP format. While supported, technical documentation currently lists HarmonyOS as a technology preview, noting that accessibility features like screen readers are not yet available.
Additionally, the commercial license for Qt 6.12 includes a declaration of conformity with the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act. This addresses upcoming regulatory requirements for software security. Other technical updates include the transition of Qt Canvas Painter from a technical preview to a production-ready solution and the introduction of QML hot reloading.
