¡Qué bello es sobrevivir! was a Spanish attempt at a Simpsons-style series

The Spanish animated series ‘¡Qué bello es sobrevivir!’, which premiered in 2001, was an attempt to create a domestic version of ‘The Simpsons’. Produced by Crea Anima2 and Globomedia, the project was driven by Emilio Aragón and aired on Telecinco.

The series focused on the Balor family, a lower-middle-class household living in a 1970s apartment building. Characters included Óscar, a hospital orderly; Silvia, a taxi driver; their teenage son Gus; and Silvia’s mother, Marga. The show utilized animation to provide social satire on Spanish society at the turn of the century, using recognizable local settings such as neighborhoods and hospitals to ground its caricatured situations.
