QuadBot USV Spider‑Inspired Rescue Robot Tested by China‑US Team

Scientists from Shenzhen Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Society and Stevens Institute of Technology have tested a four‑legged unmanned surface vehicle, dubbed QuadBot, that mimics a water‑spider to locate and rescue people who have fallen into water. In pool and open‑water trials the prototype followed planned routes, maneuvered, tracked floating targets and retrieved objects, demonstrating the potential for rapid victim extraction during surface‑water rescues.

Meanwhile, Chinese firm BrainCo showcased a non‑invasive brain‑computer interface at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. The system, presented as a "brain‑robot" platform, uses EEG‑enabled head‑set sensors to capture neural signals, which are interpreted by AI algorithms and converted into commands for various robots, including humanoid, arm, and quadruped models. A demonstration showed a robotic arm picking up a cup and an apple solely from a user’s thoughts, highlighting prospects for hands‑free control and training more intelligent robots.
