Qualcomm and Amazon have entered a strategic partnership to develop customized silicon and infrastructure for large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. The agreement, which focuses on AI inference workloads, is linked to potential commercial transactions totaling up to $60 billion.

As part of the deal, Qualcomm has issued Amazon a warrant to acquire up to 25 million shares at $161.26 per share, representing a potential stake worth approximately $4 billion. The collaboration also extends to high-performance optical connectivity, with plans to develop technologies capable of supporting speeds up to 1.6 Tb/s to reduce data bottlenecks in AI clusters.

Qualcomm intends to deepen its integration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) by utilizing cloud-based AI tools, such as Amazon Bedrock, for its electronic design automation (EDA) workloads to accelerate chip development cycles. This move marks a significant expansion for Qualcomm as it seeks to diversify its business beyond the smartphone market and compete in the growing data center sector.
