Qualcomm and gFiber unveil Wi-Fi 8 gateway with edge computing
At the Network X 2026 event, gFiber, Qualcomm, and Gemtek showcased a new gateway designed for Wi-Fi 8 and symmetrical 20 Gbps connections. The device utilizes Qualcomm’s Dragonwing NPro A8 Elite platform, which integrates a five-core CPU and a dedicated Hexagon NPU to enable edge computing capabilities within the router.
This “AI-native broadband” approach allows the hardware to perform local tasks such as network diagnostics, natural language parental controls, and guest access management. Beyond raw speed, the transition to the 802.11bn standard focuses on improving reliability, reducing latency, and maintaining performance in high-density environments filled with IoT devices and multiple access points.
