Qualcomm announces official Linux support for Snapdragon X2
Qualcomm has announced official Linux support for its Snapdragon X2 processor series, a move aimed at meeting high developer demand. The company is providing essential drivers for the Hexagon NPU and Adreno GPU directly in the upstream Linux kernel to facilitate easier development and debugging for hardware partners.
Initial support will focus on Debian, with plans to support it through the end of the year, and Ubuntu. Qualcomm has entered a partnership with Canonical to achieve official Snapdragon X2 certification for Ubuntu by the first half of 2027. To facilitate early testing, Canonical has released an experimental Ubuntu 26.10 Beta concept image, known as the Ubuntu Concept Snapdragon Edition.
This experimental build includes Linux Kernel 7.3 and provides initial support for several devices, including the ASUS Zenbook A14 and A16, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7, and HP EliteBook X G2q. Due to licensing restrictions, users must manually extract certain firmware files from existing Windows installations to ensure full functionality. Other partners, including HP and Asus, are also planning their own Linux support for Snapdragon X2 devices by early 2027.
