Qualcomm announces Linux support for Snapdragon X2 series

At the Snapdragon Summit 2026, Qualcomm announced official Linux support for its Snapdragon X2 series processors, marking a significant expansion of its ecosystem beyond Windows and ChromeOS. The company is upstreaming core drivers for the Hexagon NPU and Adreno GPU to facilitate this transition.

The rollout will occur in stages: Debian support is expected by the end of 2026, followed by Ubuntu certification through a partnership with Canonical, targeted for the first half of 2027. Hardware partners including ASUS and HP are planning to launch Linux-compatible devices using the Snapdragon X2 series during that timeframe.

In addition to PC expansion, Qualcomm unveiled new mobile chipsets, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. These chips utilize a 2nm process and are designed to power the ‘Agentic AI’ era, focusing on high-performance local AI processing, improved NPU capabilities, and enhanced power efficiency for mobile and computing devices.
