Qualcomm develops DirectX 12 support for Android PC gaming
Qualcomm is reportedly working on new GPU drivers to improve the translation of Windows PC games on Android devices. While high-end smartphones now possess sufficient hardware power to run complex titles, software compatibility remains a significant barrier, specifically regarding DirectX 12 support.
At the Snapdragon Summit 2026, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platforms. These chips utilize an Oryon CPU architecture, with the Extreme version featuring Adreno Matrix cores dedicated to AI-driven graphics functions such as super-resolution and frame generation.
Currently, users rely on community-driven tools like Winlator, GameHub, and Turnip drivers to run x86 Windows games on Android via Wine and various translation layers. However, these methods often result in inconsistent performance, stability, and compatibility issues. Qualcomm’s development aims to provide more direct support to bridge this gap.
