Qualcomm expands into data centers with Amazon and ByteDance deals
Qualcomm is expanding its market presence beyond smartphone chips into data centers and automotive technology. The company recently announced a multiyear deal with Amazon Web Services, which could involve purchases of up to $60 billion in Qualcomm server chips, hardware, and optical networking gear over the next decade.
Additionally, reports indicate Qualcomm has secured a deal with ByteDance to supply millions of custom AI application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for its AI agent software. The company is also seeing growth in its automotive sector, with revenue increasing 61.4% year-over-year in the latest quarter.
Strategic developments include a multiyear patent agreement with Huawei covering 5G, computing, and AI, though this arrangement remains subject to FTC review. While Qualcomm faces challenges such as weaker handset demand and declining Apple-related revenue, its focus on edge AI and data center expansion is viewed as a significant growth catalyst.
