Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series and AI audio platforms FAST-MOVING
At the Snapdragon Summit 2026, Qualcomm unveiled its next generation of mobile platforms, headlined by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the high-performance Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both chipsets are manufactured using a 2nm process and feature the custom Oryon CPU architecture, with the Extreme variant reaching clock speeds of up to 5 GHz.
The new chips are designed to support 'agentic AI,' enabling smartphones to act as proactive personal assistants. The Extreme variant is capable of running 30-billion-parameter Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) AI models locally on-device. Hardware improvements include a 44% boost in GPU performance for the Extreme model and enhanced multimedia capabilities such as 8K video recording at 60 fps.
Qualcomm also introduced the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 platform, aimed at transforming wearables like earbuds and smart glasses into autonomous AI companions. This platform integrates micro-power Wi-Fi 6E, allowing devices to connect directly to the cloud for AI tasks without needing a smartphone tether. Additionally, the company showcased a reference design for an AI Pin powered by Snapdragon Wear Elite, designed to provide standalone 5G connectivity and multimodal AI capabilities.
