Qualcomm reportedly testing DirectX 12 support for Snapdragon chips
Qualcomm is reportedly developing software solutions to enable high-end Android devices to run demanding Windows PC titles more reliably. Reports indicate the company is engineering specialized GPU drivers for PC game translation and exploring the direct implementation of Microsoft’s DirectX 12 support within the Android ecosystem.
Engineering tests conducted on a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 reference device reportedly demonstrated the ability to run titles such as ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ and ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ through a DirectX 12 translation layer. This development aims to move beyond current community-driven workarounds, such as Winlator and Turnip drivers, which currently provide inconsistent performance for x86 games on mobile hardware.
While the hardware, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, features advanced architecture and dedicated Adreno Matrix cores for AI-driven graphical enhancements, official implementation remains unconfirmed. The availability of these features may depend on individual smartphone manufacturers and future driver updates.
