Qualcomm to raise Snapdragon chip prices, pushing Android phone costs
Qualcomm disclosed that it will increase the price of its Snapdragon processors shipped after 1 September 2026 by a double‑digit percentage. The company said the hike is necessary because it can no longer absorb rising component costs – notably memory, DRAM and NAND – driven by massive demand from AI data‑center construction and supply constraints at its main fab, TSMC.
The company sent letters to its customers, the majority of Android OEMs, announcing the new pricing. Industry analysts expect manufacturers to pass the higher chip cost on to consumers, which could raise the retail price of smartphones, tablets, wearables and even VR headsets. Google’s upcoming Pixel 11 phones are projected to be about $100 more expensive, while Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8 may see a price increase. Valve’s Steam Frame VR headset, which uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, could also become pricier if shipped after the effective date.
The price adjustment is described as a “double‑digit” increase and applies to all Qualcomm products that leave its factories after 1 September 2026, affecting a broad range of devices that rely on Snapdragon silicon.
