Qualcomm introduces Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series SoC

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series, a mobile SoC manufactured using a 3nm process. This model serves as a lower-tier version of the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, featuring reduced specifications to differentiate it from the flagship series.

The V Series utilizes the third-generation Oryon CPU, maintaining the same configuration and clock speeds as the standard version: two Oryon V3 L prime cores at 4.6GHz and six Oryon V3 M performance cores at 3.62GHz. Compared to its predecessor, it offers a 20% increase in single-core performance and a 17% increase in multi-core performance, alongside improved power efficiency.

To distinguish the model, the GPU is scaled down to a two-slice Adreno 840 configuration, compared to the three-slice setup in the standard version. This reduction affects the number of Compute Units (from 12 to 8) and the Adreno HPM cache capacity (from 18MB to 12MB). While suitable for daily tasks, the reduced GPU capacity may impact high-load 3D gaming. The chip also includes a Hexagon NPU, LPDDR5X memory support, and UFS 4.1 storage. The first devices expected to launch with this chipset include the REDMI K100 Pro and POCO F9 Pro.
