Qualicum Beach awards contract for veteran commemorative crosswalk

The Town of Qualicum Beach has awarded a $122,727 contract to Coastline Civil Inc. for a new commemorative crosswalk on Memorial Avenue at Fir Street. Designed to honor local veterans, the project aims to improve pedestrian safety for those accessing the local Farmers’ Market and other community destinations.

The infrastructure improvements will include solar-powered rectangular rapid flashing beacons, a new LED streetlight, sidewalk enhancements, and curb realignment. While the initial budget was set at $124,500, the estimated total cost has risen to $140,227, with the overage to be covered by savings in the capital program.

Construction is currently contingent upon finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Island Corridor Foundation due to the site's proximity to a railway corridor. The town intends to complete the project before Remembrance Day on November 11, pending the agreement with the foundation.
