Qualicum Beach Receives $4.1M Federal Funding for Highway 19A Waterfront Safety Project
The town of Qualicum Beach in British Columbia will receive $4,067,672 in federal funding from the Strategic Priorities Fund, part of the Build Communities Strong Fund administered by the Union of BC Municipalities. The money will finance the Highway 19A Waterfront Complete Street Project, which aims to make the waterfront corridor safer and more accessible. Planned works include a continuous cycling path on the north side of Highway 19A, new shared pathways, additional parking, landscaped median islands, expanded green space, new shade trees and reconstructed roadways with narrower travel lanes to slow traffic.
A town traffic study found that 94 % of motorists exceed the posted 50 km/h speed limit along the corridor, underscoring the safety priority. The funding is part of a $152 million provincial‑federal investment supporting 54 community infrastructure projects across British Columbia.
