Quang Ngai authorities investigate restaurant over high meal charges
Local authorities in Nghia Giang commune, Quang Ngai province, have launched an investigation into a restaurant following allegations of overcharging. The dispute began when a driver traveling from Northern Vietnam reported that a meal for four people, including an elderly person and a child, cost 640,000 VND at the B.C. restaurant located near the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway.
The driver claimed the restaurant did not display prices or inform staff of costs before ordering. The meal reportedly included half a boiled chicken, a plate of boiled sweet potato leaves, a plate of braised pork with eggs, a bowl of mustard green soup, and a bowl of rice. Public reaction has highlighted concerns regarding the lack of price transparency, with some commenters noting that prices for items like boiled vegetables and plain rice appeared significantly higher than typical local standards.
Nguyen Tan Luc, Chairman of the Nghia Giang Commune People's Committee, stated that police are contacting the driver, who is currently in Hai Phong, to gather more information. An inspection team has been established to examine the restaurant's practices. Authorities noted that if violations are found, the business will be penalized, but they also emphasized the need to clarify the facts to protect the rights of legitimate businesses if the allegations prove inaccurate.
