Quang Ngai authorities investigate restaurant over price gouging allegations
Local authorities in Nghia Giang commune, Quang Ngai province, have launched an investigation into the B.C. restaurant following social media reports of excessive pricing. The incident began when a driver, Mr. Tran Cong Duc, posted videos alleging that a meal for his family cost 640,000 VND, which he deemed disproportionate to the food provided.
An interdisciplinary inspection team conducted a review of the establishment and identified several violations. Specifically, the team found that a mustard green soup dish was sold at 10,000 VND higher than the listed price, and the boiled chicken dish was not included on the restaurant's price list. Officials have recorded these violations and are proceeding with administrative sanctions.
The restaurant owner, Ms. Tran Thi Minh Trinh, defended the pricing, stating the meal featured free-range chicken purchased at high costs. She claimed the 300,000 VND charge for the chicken was reasonable given the quality and weight of the bird. However, the customer reported that staff failed to provide a menu or announce prices before the meal was served, and that verbal altercations occurred when he attempted to raise concerns.
