Quang Ngai coastal casuarina trees die en masse
Thousands of newly planted casuarina trees have died along the coast of Nghia An in An Phu commune, Quang Ngai province. The trees, which were planted approximately one month ago with the goal of creating windbreaks and coastal protection, have mostly withered and become brittle.
Local authorities and residents noted that while many trees were supported by stakes and ties, they failed to survive. The initiative involved 5,000 trees, including 4,000 casuarinas and 1,000 sao đen trees, sponsored by a business.
While some residents suggest extreme heat and sea winds may be responsible, local officials are reviewing the situation. There are concerns regarding whether the deaths are due to weather conditions or issues with planting processes, seedling quality, root health, or post-planting care.
