Quang Ngai experiences series of six earthquakes

A series of six earthquakes occurred in Mang But, Quang Ngai province, on August 31. The first tremor, measuring 4.0 magnitude at a depth of approximately 8.1 km, occurred at 00:41 local time. This was followed by five additional tremors with magnitudes ranging from 2.6 to 3.2 between 02:50 and 03:28.

Experts from the Institute of Earth Sciences suggest these are induced earthquakes, which are often linked to water accumulation in reservoirs. While these tremors caused noticeable vibrations and noise in homes, the disaster risk level was rated at zero, and no significant damage has been reported.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Institute of Earth Sciences, noted that induced seismicity in this region can occur in cycles and may persist for several years. He indicated that while activity may fluctuate, it is unlikely to exceed a magnitude of 5.5.
