Quang Ninh Police dismantle 1,000 billion VND cybercrime ring

Quang Ninh City Police, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security's Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention, has dismantled a massive cybercrime ring. The group is accused of fraud, money laundering, illegal trading of personal data, and the unauthorized use of telecommunications networks to misappropriate assets.

Preliminary investigations indicate the ring misappropriated over 1,000 billion VND from thousands of victims across Vietnam. The operation was initiated following reports from eight citizens in early February 2026 regarding losses totaling 160 million VND.

Authorities have arrested and prosecuted 21 suspects. The investigation revealed that the group purchased personal data from Telegram groups to identify and target victims with tailored fraud scripts. To evade detection, members frequently moved between provinces and operated out of rented apartments, homestays, and houses in urban and tourist areas.

During the crackdown, police seized 83 mobile phones, 7 computers, 266 million VND in cash, and 3,353.07 USDT.
