Quang Ninh police prosecute two for obstructing vessel monitoring systems

Police in Quang Ninh province have prosecuted Tran Van Tu and Tran Xuan Trong for obstructing the operation of computer and telecommunications networks. The investigation revealed that the pair conspired to remove and hide nine Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) devices belonging to various fishing vessels.

Authorities discovered the devices being stored on an unregistered wooden and foam raft in the Co To special economic zone. The suspects allegedly facilitated illegal fishing activities by disabling the tracking systems for a total of 163 hours and 11 minutes to generate illicit profits. The case remains under further investigation.
