Quang Tri authorities investigate mass fish kill along coastline

Authorities in Quang Tri province are investigating an unusual mass fish kill along a 1.5km stretch of coastline in Dong Trach and Bac Trach communes. The incident, which primarily involved small sardines approximately 15cm in length, occurred between the night of September 30 and the afternoon of October 1.

Representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Fisheries and Fisheries Inspection Department, and local authorities conducted on-site inspections. Because the fish had already begun to decompose by the time of the inspection, veterinary officials were unable to collect biological samples for disease analysis. However, the Agricultural and Environmental Monitoring Center has collected seawater samples to analyze various indicators and determine the cause of the deaths.

Local authorities have been advised to continue monitoring the coastal area and to report any further unusual occurrences or incidents immediately to the Department of Agriculture and Environment.
