Quang Tri land disputes: Residents await resolution after 30 years

Residents in Quang Tri Province have faced unresolved land disputes for over 30 years after paying state authorities for residential plots that were never allocated.

In Nam Ly Ward, the local People's Committee collected various fees, such as “construction fees” and “land leveling compensation,” from households between 1995 and 1996 under the promise of priority land allocation. A recent inspection by the Quang Tri Provincial Inspectorate confirmed that the ward collected 92 million VND from 13 households without the legal authority to allocate land or an approved detailed planning scheme. While two households were reimbursed, 11 families remain without their land or a final resolution regarding their payments.

Similar issues were reported in Tuyen Hoa District, where residents paid fees in the mid-1990s for land use rights in the center of Dong Le town but have yet to be provided with plots. Despite having the capacity to resolve these long-standing debts, authorities have failed to finalize the settlements for these citizens.
