Quantum Computing Boom Accelerates with Record Venture Funding, New IPOs and Education Initiatives

Venture capital investment in quantum computing reached a record $3.9 billion in 2025, highlighted by PsiQuantum’s $1 billion Series E round led by BlackRock and Temasek, with Nvidia’s NVentures also participating. BlackRock further expanded market access by launching the iShares Quantum Computing UCITS ETF.

In the United States, federal funding of roughly $2 billion was allocated to quantum‑hardware foundries, including a $1 billion award to IBM and $375 million to GlobalFoundries, signaling a shift from research to industrial scale production. The sector also saw its largest pure‑play public offering as Quantinuum listed on Nasdaq, while Horizon Quantum debuted on the stock market in March, opening at $12 per share.

Regional initiatives are growing: Phoenix, Arizona announced a city‑wide quantum strategy to link companies, universities and government, aiming to attract investment and create high‑value jobs. In Canada, UBC launched a free micro‑certificate “Step into Quantum” to train professionals. Spanish firm Quantum Computing Solutions is advising organisations on transitioning to post‑quantum cryptography to mitigate long‑term security risks.

Analysts note that while valuations have surged, many quantum firms still report minimal revenue and negative cash flow, prompting cautions about a potential market bubble.
