Quantum computing enters practical development stage
Experts at the Futurecom 2026 event in São Paulo highlighted that quantum computing is transitioning from theoretical research to practical product development. The technology is currently entering its second generation, with concrete applications emerging in computing, communication, and sensors.
João Marcelo Silva Souza, a researcher at SENAI CIMATEC, warned that the quantum revolution could be more disruptive than artificial intelligence, representing a major paradigm shift. He urged companies to begin planning immediately, specifically noting the need for post-quantum cryptography to protect data against future quantum decryption capabilities. He cautioned that the migration to these new cryptographic standards is a complex process that cannot be addressed at the last minute.
Hagai Eisenberg, Chief Science Officer at EQA Security, noted that quantum computing is not intended to replace traditional computers immediately but will work alongside them to solve specific, complex problems that are currently impossible for classical architectures, such as simulating intricate chemical reactions.
