Quantum computing firms advance hybrid integration with classical systems
Quantum computing companies are demonstrating practical hybrid workflows by integrating quantum processors with existing high-performance computing (HPC) and industrial software.
Diraq and Dell Technologies have established a co-located system in Sydney, placing a Dell HPC cluster directly within Diraq’s laboratory. This setup aims to minimize latency between quantum and classical systems, allowing classical CPUs to handle large-scale data processing while the quantum processing unit addresses specific complex problems. Diraq utilizes silicon spin qubits manufactured on standard CMOS foundry lines to facilitate scaling.
In a separate development, IonQ and Synopsys demonstrated a hybrid approach that reduced the runtime of large-scale engineering simulations by up to 14.6%. By integrating a quantum algorithm into the Ansys LS-DYNA simulation workflow, the companies optimized the reordering of equations used in applications such as automotive crash analysis and jet engine simulation. This method aims to reduce computational overhead, energy consumption, and infrastructure costs for industrial users.
